Tactik Stubby Reflex Antenna - 6"

I made the decision to swap out to a stubby antenna on my Jeep recently.
  • No more hitting tree branches with the stock one.
  • I don't have to remove the antenna while covering the Jeep.
  • I don't listen to regular radio too much anymore anyways, so if I lost receptions, not a big deal.

With that in mind, I ordered the Tactik Stubby Reflex Antenna, in the 6" variety (This comes in several different lengths). This is one of the few antennas I found specifically advertised to fit the YJs (As well as TJ, JK, JL, JT).

It fits everything as it comes with adapters. I will say the adapters are actually quite nice. It's not mentioned anywhere in the advertisement, or listing, but the adapters I received are stainless steel. I've seen some mixed things on antenna threads, here is what I've run into:
  • YJ and TJ use a 1/4 - 20 thread antenna. This adapter is supplied in this kit.
  • JK, JL, JT use a 5/16 - 18 thread antenna. This adapter is also supplied in this kit.
  • The other end of the adapter, is M6 x 1.0, which unfortunately is common for many aftermarket antennas.

The antenna was advertised as 6", and it is pretty much exactly 6".

The install is pretty much exactly what you would expect. Unscrew the old antenna, screw on the new antenna.

So I'm sure the question everyone wants to know is how well does it actually work? Much better than I expected. It still picks up all the local stations. I have one station that has a bit of static (that didn't before), but I can still definitely listen to it. However, my favorite station is from a large city about 90 minutes away, that I could usually pick up with the stock antenna. Nothing with this. So you do lose some range, but it wasn't as drastic as I expected, the local stations all were fine. Your mileage may vary though if you are further away from your local stations.

If you're in need of a stubby antenna I don't see any issues with this one. I'd recommend it.
