Why do I need to regear?
After driving your Jeep for the first time with those new mud tires, you'll quickly realize why you need to re-gear. The first trip to the gas pump will also make you realize why you need to regear. Regearing your Jeep will give you back 5th gear, gas mileage, and most importantly your power. Think of it this way, with stock tires your Jeep at 70 MPH is just under the power band at 2000 RPM in 5th gear with 3.07 gears. Now throw 33s on there and with the 3.07s 70 MPH is 1700 RPM. Regearing to 4.56 would throw your Jeep back into its power band for better fuel economy, and would make 5th gear usable again.
